Bio:

Originating from the not-so-well-known region known to locals as “Michiana,” Kate got the heck out of Dodge, as it were, with plans to become the next Indiana Jones.  After a few semesters studying archaeology at the University of Michigan (go blue!), Kate had the amazing opportunity to work as a research assistant at the Biological Station at the tip of the Lower Peninsula.  Totally smitten with the area, she stuck around to take a few classes offered at the UMBS in the field of ecology.  Dissatisfied with the direction of her studies and the state of the world, Kate fell in with the crunchy granola crowd that is the environmental studies department at U of M.  Kate focused her studies on what she believed to be at the center of our environmental and societal degradation, the agricultural system.  It was during this time she stumbled across the OFTP at the Student Organic Farm.

Upon graduating, Kate moved back to Southwest Michigan to work in Northern Indiana, helping out at some community gardens and working at a locally owned restaurant, lying in wait to apply for the OFTP 2012 cohort.  Loving her first season at the SOF to the Nth degree, Kate was honored to accept the position of Propagation Manager and Assistant Instructor for the 2013 season.  When she isn’t tending to tiny plants, Kate will attempt to work on other self-sufficiency skills.  She enjoys canning, trivia, card games, knitting, and many other activities that your grandmother would approve of.  Kate is very much looking forward to another bountiful year of food and knowledge growth at the SOF.
