What is the application deadline?
The early application deadline for 2016 is September 1, 2015. The application fee of $50 will be waived for applications received before this date. We have rolling admissions and will continue accepting applications until the cohort is filled!
 
What are the 2016 program dates?
The program begins March 1 and goes thru November 19, 2016.
 
How much does the program cost?
Program fees for 2015 are $8900 plus the cost of books and materials (~$500). Check back for fees for the 2016 cohort.
 
Is financial aid available?  What about scholarships?
Students can apply for loans or need and merit-based scholarships through the OFTP.  Contact us for more information! To learn more about our scholarships, visit our application page.
 
Can I work while in the program?
Because the program is fulltime and is very physically and mentally demanding, we recommend that students not work during the nine months.  However, we understand that this may be unrealistic for some.  Some students find jobs where they can work a limited number of hours over the weekend (10 or less).  We strongly advise against working during the week.
 
Do I get credit for the program?  Will I be considered an MSU student?
Students do not get college credit for the OFTP.  However, they do receive a certificate from the Michigan State Unviersity Student Organic Farm, Department of Horticulture and Center for Regional Food Systems upon completion of the program.
 
Students are not technically enrolled at MSU.  They do receive an ID during orientation, allowing them access to many of the on-campus facilities, such libraries, campus dining halls, fitness facilities, computer labs and more!
 
What kind of work are the graduates of the program doing?
Graduates land in a variety of farming-related jobs after the program, such as managing an existing farm's CSA or production or starting their own urban or rural farm. To read more about what our farmers are doing now, check out our alumni directory.
