Is financial aid available?  What about scholarships?

Students can apply for loans or need and merit-based scholarships through the OFTPContact us for more information!

Can I work while in the program?

Because the program is fulltime and is very physically and mentally demanding, we recommend that students not work during the nine months.  However, we understand that this may be unrealistic for some.  Some students find jobs where they can work a limited number of hours over the weekend (10 or less).  We strongly advise against working during the week.

Do I get credit for the program?  Will I be considered an MSU student?

Students do not get college credit for the OFTP.  However, they do receive a certificate from the Michigan State Unviersity Student Organic Farm and the Department of Horticulture upon completion of the program.

Students are not technically enrolled at MSU.  They do receive an ID during orientation, allowing them access to many of the on-campus facilities, such libraries, campus dining halls, fitness facilities, computer labs and more!

What kind of work are the graduates of the program doing?

Graduates land in a variety of farming-related jobs after the program, such as managing an existing farm's CSA, working on a goat farm, starting their own urban or rural farm, etc.  To read more about what our farmers are doing now, check out our alumni directory.
