Bio:

Russell Honderd was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia to two carpet-bagging mid-westerners.  After high school he tried to escape the heat by moving to Indiana for college.  Four years of cornfields felt like four too many and he made his way over to West Virginia. He restored historic buildings, and forest habitat in the hills and hollers of the Appalachians, all the while nurturing a growing passion for sustainable agriculture, and self-sufficient communities. Russell was drawn to Detroit in the spring of 2011 through a series of serendipitous events, and a desire

to explore community empowerment through food sovereignty. He worked at Detroit Eastern Market as a farm stand fellow, and associate manager of the EBT program, spent a season at Rising Pheasant, an urban farm in the city, and spent a year in the produce department of Whole Foods before coming to the Student Organic Farm with high hopes of gaining the skills and knowledge required to start his own urban agriculture project.
