April
April grew up in a small town just outside East Lansing. Family Spartan pride swayed her to attend college at Michigan State University. She graduated with a BS in Horticulture in 2007. She spent some time in the floriculture and ornamental industry at Smith Floral and Co., and managing the perennial department at Van Attas Greenhouse and Nursery. In 2009 she enlisted in the US ARMY and shipped off to Missouri for 9 months of training. Upon returning to reserve status, she worked at Wildtype plant nursery that specializes in growing Michigan natives, wetland restoration, and invasive species eradication. In February 2011 she was ordered to active duty in Kandahar, Afghanistan where she lived and worked among the Afghan Police Forces. As soon as she returned home she began the Organic Farming Training Program in 2012. After the program, April opened Sacred Roots, a healing and wellness store in Perry, Michigan. The store carries products such as magnetic therapy jewelry, herbal medicine, natural homemade soap, and has an in- house Massage Therapist and a Reiki master/teacher. In her limited free time, she enjoys hiking, hunting, kayaking, and reading. April is very excited for another year on the farm with ambitious new farmers!
